Southern California punk outfit 1208 originated in the South Bay Area, where its lineup features Alex on lead vocals and guitar, Neshawn handling lead guitar and vocals, Bryan on bass, and Manny behind the drums. Formed in 1995, the quartet draws from the regional lineage established by acts such as the Descendants, Pennywise, the Circle Jerks, and Black Flag. Early on, the members worried that their age might limit opportunities, given the prevalence of 21-and-over venues nearby, yet they found motivation in the breakthrough of fellow young locals the Deviates. This encouragement led to their first recording session, yielding the album Feedback Is Playback, produced by Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge alongside Darian Rundall. Alex’s uncle Greg Ginn, known for his guitar work in Black Flag, connects the group to that earlier scene, while another uncle, Raymond Pettibon, supplied the record’s cover art drawn from a visual career extending across multiple decades.
