Biography
Emerging during the early 1970s, this leading Christian-rock ensemble stood out through the interwoven vocal lines of siblings Annie Herring, Matthew Ward, and Nelly Greisen. Intricate arrangements and layered song forms distinguished their approach within inspirational music. Their signature piece, the 1974 single “Easter Song,” secured modest airplay on mainstream stations and included bass work from Michael Been, who later launched The Call. An understated group demeanor may have limited their visibility relative to other acts of the period. After the band dissolved in 1988, Herring and Ward each maintained active solo recording careers.
