Biography
A longstanding figure within Contemporary Christian Music, Dallas Holm has devoted his abilities to ministry since the middle of the 1960s. Born November 5, 1948, in St. Paul, Minnesota, he first joined area rock ensembles during his mid-teens. At age sixteen, as Holm recalled, "One night the pastor of our church sat down and talked with me about my life, my goals, and Jesus. On October 17, 1965, I committed my life and my music to the Lord. I've never looked back." He soon began presenting Christian material at revival gatherings, on street corners, inside jails, and at any other venues where he could reach unsaved listeners. Following bible college, he served briefly as a youth pastor, then joined evangelist David Wilkerson for a decade-long association. Throughout those years Holm integrated music into Wilkerson’s outreach and issued his self-titled debut album in 1970. In 1976 he assembled the Christian pop ensemble Dallas Holm & Praise. Two years later the group introduced Holm’s signature composition “Rise Again,” which received the Dove Award for Song of the Year; Holm himself was named Songwriter of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, while Praise earned Mixed Group of the Year. In 1980 he again received the Dove for Male Vocalist of the Year, and All That Matters by Dallas Holm & Praise was honored as Best Pop/Contemporary Album. That same year Holm established his own Texas-based ministry while maintaining a steady schedule of recordings and live appearances. From 1970 through 2005 he issued thirty-four albums either solo, with Praise, or alongside fellow CCM artists, exploring adult contemporary, country, blues, and reggae idioms. Holm entered the Texas Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2007 and the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
