Tha D and KK, who grew up as cousins in Los Angeles, shared classrooms with DJ Quik at a Compton high school before they signed their first recording contract with Profile. Their opening project, 2nd II None, showcased a pair of standout cuts—“Be True to Yourself” and “If You Want It”—each of which performed solidly. Profile later reissued the album in 1999 to introduce the duo’s next studio effort, the full-length Classic 220.
