Born in Singapore and now based in Amsterdam, this reflective neo-soul singer and songwriter delivers jazz-inflected vocals across both intimate acoustic R&B and assertive 2020s dance-pop. Her early years were shaped by a rigorous Tamil Christian household in which music was limited to church activities; there she performed regularly across several languages while her family joined in gospel harmonies accompanied by her father on bongo. Secular pop remained off-limits at home, yet school friends introduced her to tracks by Avril Lavigne and Crazy Town, prompting secret listening sessions featuring N.E.R.D. and Destiny's Child. An initial ambition to work as a zookeeper was set aside once she recognized the lengthy academic path required, leading her instead at age 18 to pursue music by teaching herself guitar through online tutorials. The following year she gave her first non-religious public performance, delivering a cover of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" at a friend's birthday celebration. She then co-founded the funky hip-hop outfit MMLD, spending three years gigging and absorbing music theory, until the group's energetic style proved incompatible with the introspective material she was composing, prompting a shift to solo work. Over the next two years she collaborated closely with Malaysian producer Cuurley, making repeated trips to his Kuala Lumpur studio to refine the songs that would establish her career. A signing with Three Six Zero brought her to Europe, where she settled in Amsterdam with a boyfriend first encountered during a 2019 vacation. Drawing from their earlier long-distance dynamic and the fresh distance from her circle in Singapore, her debut single "Same Sunrise" arrived in November 2022 and reached half a million streams within six months. Written in Milan's Malpensa airport right after a difficult farewell, the January 2023 follow-up "Walking Away" preceded the March release of the club-oriented "For Once," born from solitary nights dancing across Europe and Australia. Those three tracks plus a self-assured title song were compiled on the No Expectations EP that April. She spent the opening months of 2023 in London working with multiple producers and made her United Kingdom stage debut that May at Brighton's Great Escape festival.
