Mexican singer and songwriter Alejandro Filio entered the Nueva Trova Mexicana scene toward the close of the 1970s, handling production himself on his earliest releases Filio, En Esta Immensidad, and Caín. For the well-received Secreto a Voces he relocated across Spain, Cuba, and Argentina, where he worked alongside figures such as Silvio Rodríguez and Víctor Manuel. His material has also reached audiences through interpretations by Latin vocalists including Ricardo Montaner and Manuel Mijares. A February 22, 1998 concert at Chihuahua’s Teatro de Cámara appeared as the live set …Un Secreto en Vivo. In the same year Filio established Lundra Producciones together with Maru Bayardo and partnered with Random Records to release Secreto a Voces, an album containing fourteen duets drawn from an equal number of countries; the project was later reissued in 2006. From then onward he has put out roughly seventeen albums, among them 1999’s Hermano Lobo, 2001’s Mujer Que Camina, 2008’s Pionero de Guerra along with the live recording En Buenos Aires, 2011’s Buscando el Alma, and 2014’s Se Trata de Sentir. Additional artists such as Eduardo Palomo and Elisa Rego have recorded his compositions. Several of those pieces figured in the narrative of Salvador Ruiz Velasco’s 2005 novel La Perla del Obispo en Indias.
