Biography
At seven years old, Mexican singer-songwriter Alejandro Santiago launched his performing life as a member of Voces y Cuerdas de Veracruz. While based in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, he began composing original material and earned his initial public exposure at a national showcase for young artists, taking first prize in Villahermosa, Tabasco, and advancing to the finals in Mexico City. During his residence in Tijuana he chose to channel his abilities into the Latin style Canto Nuevo, also recognized as Nueva Canción and Trova Contemporánea. In 1993 Santiago claimed first place at Cancun’s International Festival with the song “Magia Negra” and received a nomination for Best Male Performer. He cut the album En Pie de Guerra in the late ’90s and followed it with A Tu Voluntad in 2000.
