Ambar Lucid crafts songs as a singer, songwriter, and producer whose youthful vocals shift rapidly among delicate, jazzy, and boldly soulful registers to produce an alluringly unconventional sound. Folk-styled fingerpicking, atmospheric electric guitar, dreamy electronics, and occasional horns and beats shaped her 2018 full-length debut Dreaming Lucid. Greater sonic muscle defined the 2020 follow-up Garden of Lucid, while stronger Latin and R&B accents surfaced on the 2021 Get Lost in the Music EP. She kept pursuing an ethereal fusion of stylistic threads on later singles, among them the intimate 2024 track "Truth Is So Loud."

Partly raised in the Dominican Republic and chiefly in the New York City suburb of Little Ferry, New Jersey, Ambar Cruz began issuing early material under the Ambar Lucid name that wove Spanish and English lyrics together, starting with the 2017 viral acoustic song "A Letter to My Younger Self." That piece and additional tracks formed the early-2018 album Dreaming Lucid. Mid-2018 brought the EP Mi Historia, and her song "Listen" later appeared that year on the Skate Kitchen soundtrack alongside work by Jaden Smith, Clairo, Princess Nokia, and others. By then she had started performing around N.Y.C. with a backing band. A pair of singles surfaced in 2019, followed in early 2020 by the second album Garden of Lucid.

Although that release continued testing genre limits, Latin music and bedroom rap components grew more pronounced on the five-track Get Lost in the Music EP issued in mid-2021. Subsequent singles such as 2022's "Timeless" and the trippy 2024 cut "Truth Is So Loud" carried her sound into further hard-to-classify territory.
