Biography
As one of the originators of the forward-thinking flamenco ensemble Ketama, Antonio Carmona has positioned himself among the style’s foremost innovators. Ketama stood out for fusing salsa, hip-hop, and jazz into their sound, positioning them as early ambassadors who carried the music of their native Spain to global audiences. The group further distinguished itself through masterful guitar technique and seamless vocal harmonies. Tracing his lineage to a family of musicians that stretches back four generations, Carmona began performing at an early age and carries the authority of a seasoned flamenco master. Beyond his roles as guitarist and vocalist, he ranks among Spain’s premier percussionists and is credited with integrating the Peruvian cajon, a wooden box instrument, into flamenco. During his years with Ketama, he also appeared on screen in Go for Gold! (1997) and Gitano (2000). After two decades alongside his brother and cousin, Carmona left the group and issued his first solo album, Vengo Venenoso, in 2006.
