The B-Side Players consist of seven members, with Karlos Paez serving as their frontman alongside guitarist Giovanni Mejia, bass player Gerry Guevara, saxophonist Regan Branch, percussionists Victor Tapia and Luis Cuenca, and drummer Ryan Moran. Growing up as the son of a musician, Paez frequently traveled on tour before establishing the group during 1993 within San Diego. Earning multiple San Diego music awards for fusing Latin, funk, rock, and reggae sounds helped the ensemble develop strong regional support, while their performances have shared stages with acts from Ben Harper through to Papa Roach. September 2001 saw the release of Movement, an album that drew tracks from the band's earlier independent efforts Renacimeinto and Culture of Resistence. Featured on this record were a contribution from Mike Clark, known as the drummer for Herbie Hancock, together with a rendition of War's classic track "Spill the Wine."
