Biography
Locos por Juana emerged in Miami as a self-described Latin urban orchestra whose sound fuses tropical genres including reggae, cumbia, and salsa with urban elements such as hip-hop, rock, and Latin alternative. The multicultural ensemble, formed in Miami, FL, features Itagüí Correa on vocals from Colombia, Mark Kondrat on guitar also from Colombia, Emiliano Torres on trumpet from Argentina, Guillermo Cabral on bass from Venezuela, Javier Delgado on drums from Colombia, and Alan Reyna on percussion from Venezuela. Their first commercial release arrived in 2002 as a self-titled album issued by the Miami independent label Musical Productions; the project spotlighted the single “Que Es Lo Que Está Pasando,” drew widespread critical praise, and secured a Best Urban Artist nomination at the 2003 Premios Lo Nuestro. Their sophomore effort, Música pa'l Pueblo, followed in 2005 on the same imprint and earned comparable acclaim, highlighted by a duet with Armando Manzanero on “Adoro” that led to a Best Latin Rock Album nomination at the 2005 Latin Grammy Awards. The band’s third album, La Verdad, appeared in 2008 via Machete Music, a Universal Music Group subsidiary, and received a Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album nomination at the 2009 Grammy Awards; to promote the record, they issued the single “Armando” and maintained a busy touring schedule that included a set at the 2009 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
