Rapper Baby Beesh first surfaced in the Bay Area during 1994 as a member of Potna Deuce. Their effort Welcome to da Tilt saw a short-lived release on Profile before vanishing from view. Together with his Potna Deuce associates, Beesh put out Heron Soup in 1996 through independent means, after which the crew split up. Forming Latino Velvet alongside Jay Tee from N2Deep came next for Beesh, and the pair issued The Golden State that same year. Three years on came The Rumble, prompting Beesh to leave Latino Velvet and depart the Bay Area entirely. His move took him southward to Houston, Texas, where Dope House offered him a solo contract. The label's first release from him arrived in 2001 as Savage Dreams, an album steeped in Dirty South influences and marked by flashy artwork. Sound and demeanor appeared more subdued on the 2002 follow-up On tha Cool. Trippy stoner elements blended with his West Coast bravado there, evoking a version of War's "Low Rider" as delivered by Tupac Shakur. Production duties fell to Mario Ayala and Happy Perez, while Dope House roster members South Park Mexican and Russell Lee added features, alongside a Latino Velvet get-together for the track "They Don't Even Know."
