Biography
Originating from Mazatlan Sinaloa, the seventeen-piece Banda la Ejecutiva de Mazatlan Sinaloa distinguishes itself within the traditional banda style through an approach marked by profound romance and positivity. Modern composers such as Espinoza Paz, Horacio Palencia, Luciano Luna, and Marcos Figueroa count the ensemble among the genre’s most respected and in-demand groups. Their first studio release, the 2013 album No Me Lamentare, secured regional airplay; together with a hospitable yet frequently electrifying live presentation, it established the group as a fixture on regional stages and at seaside resorts. The 2015 concert recording En Vivo Auditorio Benito Juarez elevated them to national visibility and positioned them as a touring act capable of drawing audiences nationwide. Following several singles, the ensemble returned to the airplay charts with the lush, soulful romantico track “Por Si Me Extranas,” widely regarded as the clearest embodiment of their singular aesthetic.
Although veteran trumpeter Popo Sanchez (Arrolladora Banda el Limón, Banda el Recodo) had formed the group in the ’90s under the name La Banda Pioneros and issued four albums, a complete roster overhaul occurred in 2013 when Juan Carlos Espinoza and musical director Pedro Lizárraga refreshed the lineup to emphasize youthful energy and adopted the current name Banda la Ejecutiva de Mazatlan Sinaloa. Written by Horacio Palencia, their debut single “Quisiera Olvidarte” achieved regional-radio success, and its video accumulated more than one million views. The accompanying album No Me Lamentare likewise benefited from title-track airplay and generated additional live opportunities; given the banda pedigrees of its musicians, the group readily secured opening slots and club dates. A touring-bus accident that claimed the driver’s life and injured several members nevertheless sidelined the band for months. Upon resuming activity they released the eight-track EP Corridos Ejecutiva in 2014, which earned airplay across northern Mexico and the southwestern United States before spreading throughout North America, enabling performances as far afield as Chicago, New York, and Miami. Videos for “Toro Encartado” and “Cosas del Destino” each surpassed several million views, and the group received a Bandamax Awards nomination that year. Instead of limiting themselves to major cities, they performed at a festival in Chiapas, where they captured the studio album Ponte en Mis Zapatos in 2015 and promptly followed it with the charting live set En Vivo Auditorio Benito Juarez.
Over the ensuing five years the ensemble continued releasing occasional singles while integrating new members through rehearsal. The digitally issued 2018 single “Algo Bien” climbed the streaming charts to a peak of number ten; its cumbia-romantica arrangement showcased the band’s swinging ensemble sound and amassed nearly eight million views within six months, ultimately reaching number 34 on Latin Airplay after an eight-week run. The track served as the opening cut on the six-track Ya Me Vi EP, released to critical acclaim in January 2020. February brought the non-EP single “Cama y Mesa.” With the global coronavirus pandemic halting live work, the group quickly recorded the studio album Te Encontre, issued in May, which expanded the Ya Me Vi EP to fourteen tracks.
