Originating from Mesillas Concordia in the vibrant Sinaloan music scene of Mexico, the popular banda ensemble La Banda San Jose de Mesillas formed in March 1990 and quickly established itself with a roster exceeding fifteen musicians as a reliable presence in regional Mexican sounds. After an extended period issuing recordings through EMI International, the California-rooted outfit shifted to the independent La Sierra Records imprint, delivering Para Conquistarte in 2007 and Como la Palma di Mano the following year. At that juncture the collective adopted the revised designation La Adictiva Banda San Jose de Mesillas without altering its core musical approach; Corridos Adictivos, its concluding project for La Sierra, appeared in 2009. A subsequent move to Sony yielded Viva Sinaloense in August 2010, Nada Iguales in October 2011, and Pasado Es Pasado in 2012.

By then La Adictiva Banda San Jose de Mesillas had solidified as a consistent radio and chart presence while also emerging as a live draw across Mexico and throughout the United States, with particular strength along the West Coast and across the Southwest extending into Texas. A retrospective collection titled Muchas Gracias surfaced in 2013, succeeded in spring 2014 by the hit single “Un Fin en Culiacán.” The full-length Disfruté Engañarte arrived that July amid an international tour, both releases achieving Top Ten placements on multiple regional Mexican charts. The 2015 joint compilation Frente a Frente paired the group with Banda Costeña, after which new studio work commenced in early 2016 and produced Durmiendo en el Lugar Equivocado in November.

Although personnel shifts had been routine, a substantial reconfiguration occurred around this period, resulting in a four-year absence from new releases—an uncommon interval within the genre. Resuming activity in 2020 to mark the thirtieth anniversary, the ensemble shortened its name to La Adictiva, transitioned from Sony to Anval Music, and refreshed its longstanding approach by weaving in elements of more current styles, most notably corridos tumbados. The 2024 EP On the Road included appearances by Gabito Ballesteros, Montana, and Grupo Marca Registrada.
