Fronted by Sinaloan multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter Ulices Chaidez, the Mexican Regional outfit Ulices Chaidez y Sus Plebes has topped numerous charts throughout the 21st century. Their material draws from both freshly composed and longstanding corridos, bandas, and rancheras. The group surfaced in 2016 via the release of Andamos el Rudeda and has since delivered multiple charting singles along with albums such as Brincale al Toro, 11:11, and the widely praised 2020 set Seguimos en el Ruedo.

Navolato, Sinaloa serves as the band’s home base, and its moniker pays tribute to Chaidez’s foremost idol, Ariel Camacho of Los Plebes del Rancho. Chaidez began performing music at age five; in addition to guitar and requinto he handles fife, bass, and drums while pursuing studies on accordion and violin. During high school he performed under the name Ulices Chaidez y Sus Humildes alongside other guitarists at local and regional festivals and talent contests. A Del Records executive discovered one of their YouTube clips and signed the fifteen-year-old vocalist, after which the trio was assembled using the identical instrumentation favored by Camacho’s ensemble.

In August 2016 the group unveiled its debut single, “Andamos en el Ruedo,” which immediately claimed the summit of several Latin Songs charts; Billboard featured the act, and the accompanying video surpassed one million views. Their self-titled first album followed in October and reached number three on the Top Latin Albums chart, where it remained for 92 weeks. The sophomore album El Elegido surfaced the next year and peaked at number five. For 2018’s Brincale al Toro the band incorporated electric guitars and requinto alongside tuba, bass, and percussion; issued digitally, the project led the Mexican Regional streaming charts for ten straight weeks. Following extensive touring across Mexico and the southwestern United States, they released the live recording Marcando Di Historia in 2019.

The 2020 album 11:11 blended acoustic and electric instruments, including pre-programmed trap beats and horns, and again topped the streaming charts. Locked down by the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, Ulices Chaidez y Sus Plebes devoted the year to recording. They fulfilled a long-held ambition by teaming with singer Jose Manuel on Homenaje a Ariel Camacho, issued the unplugged live-in-studio set Amor y Dolor, and closed the year with Seguimos en el Ruedo in December.
