Virlan Garcia

Virlan Garcia works as a singer, guitarist, and songwriter within the Mexican regional style, with a focus on norteño, corridos, and bandas. Hailing from Sinaloa, he has supplied material to various performers, among them Gerardo Ortiz, who selected Garcia’s “Fuego Cruzado” as the opening track for the successful album Hoy Más Fuerte. Garcia’s recordings adhere to the sierreño trio format, in which he handles rhythm guitar while Carlos Gomez plays 12-string lead guitar and Edgar Salazar performs on tuba. His first single, “Que Ya Estas Harta,” appeared as a digital release in spring 2015 and registered on multiple regional Mexican song charts. Additional tracks of his appeared on year-end “best corridos” collections issued by several labels. The following February he took the uncommon step of issuing two complete albums on his own: Pobre o Criminal, which contained the frequently recorded single “Quién Te Entiende,” and Yi Cambio Mi Suerte, which spotlighted the widely viewed YouTube video single “Ivan Archivaldo.”
