Biography
Christian Nodal, a Mexican singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, crafts charting, award-winning music that fuses mariachi with norteño while occasionally adding pop hooks. His rich, emotionally expressive romantic tenor anchors the performances. Supported by a mariachi orchestra, he launched his debut single “Adiós Amor” in 2016; the track ascended to the summit of the Mexican Regional charts and held the position for more than six months. The long-awaited 2017 debut album Me Dejé Llevar reached number two in the U.S., and each of its four singles earned multi-platinum status. Ahora, released in 2019, matched that commercial trajectory as Nodal solidified his standing across the Americas through extensive touring. Ayayay! first appeared as an EP in May 2020 before expanding into a full-length Top Ten album in September 2021. The initial Forajido EP arrived in 2022 and delivered another hit, “Ya No Somos Ni Seremos.” Forajido EP 2 followed in 2023, and Nodal joined Peso Pluma on the 2024 single “La Intención.”
Born in 1999 to a musical family, Nodal grew up with mother Silvia Cristina Nodal, a professional mariachi singer who later became her son’s manager, and father Jaime González, owner of an independent record label who produced Ariel Camacho. Numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins also pursued music. Nodal began singing at age four and turned to instruments by eight, teaching himself piano, guitar, trumpet, and eventually accordion. He started composing at thirteen and shared performance videos online, attracting Fonovisa’s A&R team, which signed him in 2016. After finalizing the contract, he appeared as featured vocalist on Los Plebes del Rancho’s 2019 hit “No Pasa de Moda,” whose video surpassed 22 million views. That same year he received the Lo Nuestro Award for Regional Mexican Male Artist of the Year.
Salvador Garza wrote Nodal’s debut single “Adiós Amor,” which topped the Mexican Regional Songs chart, reached number two on the Top Latin Songs chart, and remained on the latter for more than 33 weeks. The song served as an anthem for the Mexican National Team at the 2018 Russia World Cup, and its video accumulated over 688 million views before earning 21-times platinum certification.
Three additional singles followed, among them “Problamente” featuring David Bisbal, which charted inside the Top 20 on Mexican Regional Songs and the Top 40 on Top Latin Songs; all received multi-platinum awards. Me Dejé Llevar, issued in August 2017, led the Mexican Regional Albums chart, peaked at number two on Top Latin Albums, earned a Latin Grammy, and achieved double-platinum status. Nodal also earned nominations for Premios Juventud and Latin American Music Awards in the best-new-artist category.
After three consecutive number-one, platinum-certified singles—“Nada Nuevo,” “No Te Contaron Mal,” and “De los Besos Te Di”—Nodal delivered his sophomore album Ahora in 2019. The project attained platinum status, reached number seven on the U.S. Mexican Regional Charts and the pop Top 20 in Mexico, and brought Latin Grammys for best mariachi album and best mariachi song for “No Te Contaron Mal,” plus Lo Nuestro’s artist-of-the-year honor. Nodal further guested on Juanes’s hit single “Tequila.”
Following transcontinental tours, he issued the seven-track EP Ayayay! in March 2020; it entered the Top Ten on the Mexican Regional list. A deluxe 13-track edition appeared in September and earned gold certification while climbing the upper chart tiers. A “super deluxe” 15-song version followed in February 2021. In May, at the invitation of his father and the band, Nodal served as guest lead vocalist for Los Plebes del Rancho on Recordando la a una Leyenda, a tribute to Ariel Camacho.
Departing Fonovisa for Sony, Nodal resumed recording under his own name with the February 2022 single “Ya No Somos Ni Seremos.” Later that month he featured on Maná’s “Te Lloré un Río.” He next released the charting track “Vivo en el 6” and the buoyant mariachi set Forajido EP 1. In June he surprised listeners with the hard-rock-tinged rap single “Girasol,” a diss track aimed at J Balvin amid a brief social-media feud that has since been resolved. Nodal appeared as VF7’s duet partner on the “Pensar a Ti” remix. Continuing his output through the first half of 2023, he paired with Tini on the hit “Por el Resto de Tu Vida,” later included on Forajido EP 2 released that May. His first collaboration with Peso Pluma, “La Intención,” arrived in 2024. Nodal subsequently joined Grupo Frontera on “Ya Pedo Quién Sabe” and issued the solo tracks “Kbron y Medio” and “No Me 100to Bien.”
