Banda Carnaval originated as a regional Mexican ensemble from Mazatlán, Sinaloa, whose banda approach targets teens through heavy emphasis on cumbias and romanticas. Executive producer Jesús Tirado Castañeda launched the group in 2001; its roster exceeds a dozen members and prominently features teen heartthrob Rafael Becerra, known as Rafa, as lead vocalist. The band issued its first full-length album, Entre Suspiro y Suspiro, in 2001. Subsequent releases such as Aqui Estamos in 2009, El Número 1 in 2011, and Maximo Nivel in 2012 yielded multiple hit singles including "Pídeme," "Olvidarte No Será Sencillo," and "El Mentiroso."

Las Vueltas de la Vida appeared the following year and sent both "Y Te Vas" and "La Doble Cara" to the top of various airplay charts in Mexico and the United States. The first of two 2013 projects, it preceded the October release of Puros Corridos, which contained the charting single "El Magnate." The group also performed at the 14th Annual Latin Grammys show. In 2014 "El Que Se Enamora Pierde" rose high on airplay charts, while the title track from La Historia de Mis Manos reached number one on the Mexican Regional Songs chart and stayed there for several weeks. Hombre de Trabajo, the band’s 2015 album, debuted at number three on Billboard’s Mexican Albums chart.

Las Bandas Romanticas de America 2016, a various-artists compilation, included "El Que Se Enamora Pierde" as Banda Carnaval’s contribution; the track maintained strong positions on both streaming and download charts. It also served as the lead single from the group’s own compilation, Las Bandas Romanticas, which arrived in April.
