Saul "El Jaguar" Alarcón ranks among the more prominent figures in regional Mexican music, having already logged years of experience before achieving widespread recognition at age 20. Born May 28, 1988, he grew up as the youngest of 13 siblings in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico, and started performing at family events when he turned three, often receiving small payments from relatives impressed by his voice. During his teenage years he took on assorted manual and service work to contribute to the household, among them meat packing, table service, and house painting, yet kept performing at weddings, parties, and quinceañeras whenever time allowed. At one such gathering, the 16-year-old joined a band onstage for several numbers and received an invitation to become a regular member. The following year he secured a contract with Universal Music Mexico. The label initially teamed him with vocalist Yamily to form the duo Yamily y Saul, banking on his youthful appearance to attract listeners to romantic repertoire. That project failed to gain traction commercially, prompting Alarcón to move away from Duranguense and Norteño styles toward banda Sinaloense arrangements. Adopting the stage name "El Jaguar," he introduced the revised approach on his debut solo release, 2008’s Un Sueño, which enjoyed moderate sales; the next year’s El Katch brought a substantial hit in its title track, whose lyrics centered on young men embracing ostentatious fashion and jewelry. Solo Contigo followed in 2010 and also performed strongly on the charts, leading by 2013 to the compilation Lo Mejor de Saul "El Jaguar" Alarcón that gathered his most successful recordings.
