In Portland, the band Bed. crafts its own take on introspective indie rock rooted in guitar sounds and the ethos of the 1990s. The group came together in 2013, consisting of the married pair Sierra Haager on vocals and guitar with Alex Haager on vocals and bass, plus Andrew Meininger handling drums. Having left San Francisco behind, the Haagers abandoned their prior employment and musical projects that same year, relocating to Portland, Oregon specifically to establish Breakup Records as their independent venture. Amidst issuing records from additional acts, the couple turned attention toward creating material of their own. Drawing from Low's lyrical slowcore approach typical of the nineties and the Pixies' dynamic shifts between quiet and intense passages, Bed. cultivated a self-reliant approach labeled "slow-fi." With Meininger's addition to the lineup, the band grew its audience through repeated performances across the Pacific Northwest region. Their first EP, titled Klickitat, appeared in 2016 via the Bug Hunt imprint.
