French trio Birds in Row produces raw, ferocious melodic hardcore whose English lyrics confront private turmoil and broader societal frustration in pursuit of a global audience. From their earliest days the group cultivated a collective identity by identifying solely through first initials and excising their faces from all promotional imagery and videos. After several favorably received independent EPs, Birds in Row entered the international arena in 2012 by signing with the U.S. label Deathwish Inc. and issuing their debut album You, Me and the Violence, followed six years later by We Already Lost the World. The 2022 release Gris Klein, issued on Red Creek Recordings, represented the band’s first project for that imprint.

Birds in Row formed in Laval, France, in 2009, and their initial 7" EP Rise of the Phoenix appeared on Vitriol Records in 2010. The 12" EP Cottbus followed in 2011 via Throatruiner/Swarm of Nails, after which both recordings were gathered on the 2011 LP Collected, released jointly by Vitriol and Throatruiner. In November 2011 the American label Deathwish Inc., linked to the hardcore band Converge, added the trio to its roster; by the start of the next year Birds in Row had finished their first full-length. That March they toured the United States alongside Loma Prieta, and You, Me and the Violence reached listeners in September. Additional North American, British, and European routing ensued, including runs with Converge, Touché Amoré, the Chariot, and other acts. During fall 2015 the band issued a split EP with We Are in the Country on Throatruiner together with the Personal War EP, their second Deathwish Inc. release. In July 2018, six years after the debut, they delivered the expansive sophomore album We Already Lost the World. Ahead of Gris Klein the group signed with Cult of Luna’s Red Creek Recordings, issuing the album in 2022.
