Biography
Black Veil Brides fuse a bold, shadowy gothic aesthetic with an eclectic sonic palette drawing from metalcore, shock rock, punk, and glam metal. Since their emergence in 2006, these Ohio-based rockers rapidly earned a devoted following in the alt-metal community through story-rich, commercially successful albums such as Set the World on Fire (2011), the expansive rock opera Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones (2013), Vale (2018), and Phantom Tomorrow (2021).
Vocalist Andy Biersack (also known as Andy Six) originated the project, which took shape in Cincinnati during 2006. Early lineup fluctuations marked their initial seasons, yet the group attracted label interest through the EPs Sex & Hollywood (2007) and Never Give In (2008). A subsequent move to Los Angeles allowed them to finalize their roster and prepare a debut LP. With guitarist Jinxx (ex-The Dreaming), guitarist Jake Pitts, bassist Ashley Purdy, and drummer Sandra Alvarenga now in place, the ensemble honed both visual style and musical approach while sharing stages alongside acts like Eyes Set to Kill and From First to Last.
Their first full-length, We Stitch These Wounds, surfaced on Standby Records in 2010. Alvarenga departed later that year, yielding the drum chair to Christian "CC" Coma, whose inaugural recording with the band was 2011’s Set the World on Fire on Lava Records. For their third outing, the quartet leveraged its gothic persona to craft the conceptual punk rock opera Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones, issued in early 2013. Roughly a year afterward came the self-titled fourth album Black Veil Brides, which entered the Billboard 200 at number ten.
Alive and Burning, the band’s inaugural live album and concert film, followed the next year. In January 2018 they unveiled their fifth studio effort, Vale, conceived as a narrative prequel to Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones. Bassist Ashley Purdy exited in 2019 and was succeeded by Lonny Eagleton, who debuted on the studio recording The Night EP that same year. A re-recorded version of the 2010 debut We Stitch These Wounds appeared in 2020. The single “Scarlet Cross” followed later that year, joined by “Fields of Bone” in early 2021; both cuts featured on the conceptual sixth album Phantom Tomorrow, released that October.
