A progressive metal outfit hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, Bombus delivers straightforward, riff-driven compositions that occasionally feature urgent pleas urging humanity to abandon its most ruinous habits. Though the veteran outfit voices such concerns on disc, its strongest material evokes the spirit of 1980s power-metal acts, most notably across the 2016 effort Repeat Until Death and the 2024 set Your Blood.

The band originated when vocalists and guitarists Feffe Burglund and Matte Säker united in 2008. Bassist Ulf Lundén and drummer Peter Asp soon completed the initial roster, which issued a self-titled debut on home soil in 2010. Several years afterward the group secured an international contract with Germany’s Century Media imprint and, following the arrival of bassist Jonas Ryder in place of Lundén, unveiled its second album, The Poet and the Parrot, in 2013. Ryder himself departed in 2015, succeeded by Ola Henrikson. Repeat Until Death, issued the following year, drew from a range of metal forebears, incorporating Motörhead’s snarling velocity, Mastodon’s forceful rhythmic drive, and a hint of Def Leppard polish in the vocals. “Deadweight,” “Rust,” and the title track rank among the band’s most widely streamed recordings.

Further personnel shifts marked the close of the 2010s and the start of the next decade. Guitarist Simon Solomon entered in 2018, freeing frontman Burglund to concentrate primarily on vocals. The resulting quartet’s first outing, 2019’s Vulture Culture, delivered some of the group’s most pointed social commentary on numbers such as “(You Are All Just) Human Beings,” “It’s All Over,” and “Two Wolves, One Sheep.” Co-founder Säker exited in 2020 and was replaced by guitarist Johan Meiton. After an extended hiatus the five-piece returned in 2024 with Your Blood, its debut release for the domestic metal label Black Lodge Records.
