Biography
In late 2010, Christa Palazzolo and Sarah Brown, both based in Austin, Texas, launched Boy Friend after exiting Sleep∞Over to focus on their own variety of lovelorn dream pop. Acquaintances since their early teens, Brown, who contributes vocals and guitar, and Palazzolo, who supplies vocals and keyboards, connected through shared admiration for Mariah Carey and Ray Lynch soundtracks, eventually shaping a style that recalled the Cocteau Twins, Air, Beach House, and Strawberry Switchblade. The duo proceeded rapidly after departing Sleep∞Over, issuing the Boy Friend EP in January 2011 followed by the Lovedropper 7" that May. While on the road with the like-minded Speculator in October, Boy Friend put out a tour-exclusive tape along with the Crystal EP, which included material from both acts. Following their signing to Hell Yes!, the group delivered their debut album, Egyptian Wrinkle, in February 2012.
