Briana Alexa Martinez first found her voice as a child while growing up in Miami. After teaching herself piano, she moved into songwriting, and a later encounter with Grammy-winning producer Julio Reyes Copello initiated a three-year collaboration. Their work yielded her debut album, Voice Memos, issued in late 2014 on his Art House Records label and defined by a sparse, intimate approach to soulful, off-center adult pop. The project introduced the viral tracks “Expectations” and “Just Wanna Be Single,” both of which amassed millions of streams, a success later echoed by “You.” Brika shared the stage with Kygo during the Winter X Games live broadcast in 2016, and Art House released a deluxe edition of Voice Memos the next year. That same year she unveiled the standalone single “Don't Want Your Love,” followed by additional independent releases that included “Distracted” in 2019.
