A trap and electro producer affiliated with Mad Decent, Brillz first operated out of the spotlight, performing in multiple bands and collaborating with artists such as Jeffree Star and AJ McLean. Born Sami Diament, the Los Angeles-based creator introduced the electro project Ultraviolet Sound in 2008 while contributing to Jeffree Star’s breakthrough EP Cupcakes Taste Like Violence. Subsequent sessions with AJ McLean and additional Ultraviolet Sound material preceded his 2012 appearance alongside ETC!ETC! and Diplo on the Bueller EP, issued via the Mad Decent subsidiary Jeffree’s. The album Twonk arrived in 2013 through Slow Roast, followed later that year by its remix counterpart Retwonked. Appearances at festivals such as Lollapalooza and Electric Zoo, together with remixes for Katy Perry and Zedd, led into 2015, when Brillz joined the Mad Decent roster; the imprint then issued his Geekin EP, which included a contribution from veteran rapper Gangsta Boo.
