Burst

Sweden's Burst came together in 1993, issuing the underground Shadowcaster EP in 1996 and the Two Faced LP in 1998 before the five-piece lineup that would define the band's mature sound locked into place in 1999. Vocalist Linus Jägerskog, guitarists Jonas Rydberg and Robert Reinholdz, bassist Jesper Liveröd (ex-Nasum), and drummer Patrik Hultin refined an approach that filtered raw death-metal and hardcore aggression through shifting layers of texture and atmospheric depth, echoing the exploratory path of Neurosis. That vision first took shape on the 2001 album Conquest: Writhe, advanced further with the 2002 EP In Coveting Ways, and reached a wider audience once the group joined Relapse Records and delivered the full-length Prey on Life in 2003. Early 2006 brought the widely praised follow-up Origo.
