Biography
Caroline af Ugglas, the Swedish soul-pop singer born Caroline Thérese af Ugglas Liljedahl on April 7, 1972 in Bromma, Sweden, first gained widespread attention through her appearances as a contestant in Melodifestivalen during both the 2007 and 2009 editions. Her initial solo album, Ida Blue, arrived in 1997 via V2 Music, with Mrs. Boring following two years later; neither release achieved notable traction, and several years passed before she issued further material. In 2005 she resurfaced as frontwoman and co-songwriter of the band Twiggs, whose self-titled album appeared on Sound Pollution, yet commercial results again remained modest. Her decisive breakthrough occurred in 2007 after qualifying for Melodifestivalen with the song “Tror på Dig,” an effort coinciding with the release of Joplin på Svenska, a Swedish-language tribute to American rock legend Janis Joplin featuring adapted material from the artist’s catalog. Although she placed sixth in the competition, Joplin på Svenska climbed to number three on the Swedish albums chart while “Tror på Dig” reached number 12 on the singles chart. Two years afterward, af Ugglas returned to Melodifestivalen and secured second place with “Snälla Snälla,” a single that peaked at number two in Sweden; the accompanying album Så Gör Jag Det Igen, issued in 2009, topped the national charts.
