Biography
Cauterize originated in Oshawa, Ontario, launching their performances in 2003. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist Jesse Smith, the outfit comprised his longtime friends Josh Slater on guitar, Jason Bone on bass, and Matt Worobec on drums. Numerous other young Canadian acts were then serving punk-pop to teenage crowds, among them Sum 41, yet Cauterize earned notice by openly naming Green Day among their chief inspirations and by stressing the value of vigorous shows in light of their inexperience. That focus secured them an opening slot on Evanescence’s 2003 tour, where they promoted their debut album So Far From Real, released by Wind-Up that August. The band sustained its road work through the close of the year, sharing bills with Three Days Grace and Hoobastank.
