Biography
Cemetary, a Swedish outfit, made their entrance in 1992 via the death-metal album An Evil Shade of Grey. On the 1993 follow-up Goddess Beauty they began folding '70s rock and goth-rock elements into their sound. Mathias Lodmalm, who handled vocals and guitar, dispensed with the remaining members ahead of 1994's Black Vanity; he handled production duties alone, steering the project deeper into gothic territory. The 1996 album Sundown sealed the band's shift to gothic metal, introducing the revised lineup of Lodmalm alongside guitarist Anders Iwers, bassist Thomas Josefsson, and drummer Markus Nordberg. Last Sundown appeared the next year.
