Born Karl Brunner on February 28, 1955, in Graz, Charly Brunner formed half of the Austrian schlager duo Brunner & Brunner alongside his younger sibling Johann “Jogl” Brunner, who entered the world on March 19, 1958, in Tamsweg. The pair began recording as Happy, issuing their debut album Tausend Träume in 1985, then Frei Wie der Wind in 1987 and Verbotene Träume der Nacht in 1989. Their manager rebranded the act Brunner & Brunner in 1991, a name retained across more than a dozen subsequent releases. During a September 2009 appearance on the television program Musikantenstadl, the duo declared their intention to split at the start of 2010. Following an eighteen-month break, Charly resurfaced as a solo performer with the single “Was Immer Du Tust” in November 2011 and delivered his first solo album, Ich Glaub’ an die Liebe, in February 2012.
