Biography
Markus Randle records as Childish Major and grew up in Edgefield, South Carolina before settling in Atlanta, Georgia in 2011. After entering the city’s underground circuit he aligned with the Hoodrich crew, then broke through regionally in March 2013 by producing Rocko’s coasting single “U.O.E.N.O.,” a Future and Rick Ross collaboration that reached number 20 on the pop chart and received gold RIAA certification five months later.
That success led to production placements on Jeezy’s 2014 album Seen It All: The Autobiography, where he handled three tracks, and to co-production of the title cut on J. Cole’s 2016 chart-topping release 4 Your Eyez Only. Shifting focus to his own material, Childish Major issued the 2017 EP-length project WOO$AH, which featured the singles “Happy Birthday” with SZA and Isaiah Rashad and the J. Cole-produced “Supply Luh.”
Two songs appeared on the soundtrack for season three of Insecure in 2018: the candid “Know Nothing” and the raw “Ho for It,” the latter carrying guest turns from TT the Artist, Dreezy, and Cam & China plus spoken samples from creator and star Issa Rae. His first proper album, Dirt Road Diamond, arrived in 2019 with Ludacris, Buddy, and Tish Hyman among the guests. That year he also contributed to Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers III, a project nominated for a Grammy in the Best Rap Album category.
Childish Major followed with the 2021 EP Thank you, God. For it all., released on Atlantic, capping a rise that began with his early production work on the gold-certified Top 20 hit “U.O.E.N.O.” and continued through sessions with Jeezy and J. Cole plus the 2017 mixtape WOO$AH.
