Biography
Hailing originally from Thunder Bay, Canada, where his early years unfolded, the raspy-voiced Coleman Hell crafts genre-blending dance pop as a Toronto-based producer, singer, and songwriter. In the early 2010s he teamed with Joey Burnz for half of the Thunder Bay hip-hop duo Burnz N Hell, then helped launch the Toronto artist collective Sideways that also featured Shan Vincent de Paul, La+ch, and Michah. A string of singles opened with the 2012 dance rap cut “Glow,” produced by La+ch, and led to the 2013 mixtape Stark Raving plus the thumping 2014 EP Vena. Breakthrough arrived with “2 Heads,” a banjo-R&B-dance mosaic that dominated streaming-service charts in early 2015 and earned him a Columbia Records deal. The label’s support propelled the track to number 15 on Billboard’s Canadian Hot 100 that fall. His debut full-length Summerland followed in October 2016, landing inside Canada’s Top 30 while the charting single “Fireproof” also connected.
