Filipino-Australian musician daine crafts hyperpop tracks steeped in angst and bittersweet emotion, drawing from emo, hardcore, and trap sources. Early self-released material helped her build an audience, after which she joined a major label and dropped the well-received Oli Sykes collaboration “SALT.” Two EPs soon appeared: Quantum Jumping in 2022 and shapeless in 2023.

Growing up in Melbourne, daine absorbed the music of 5 Seconds of Summer and the 1975 before discovering local punk and emo gigs. The city’s hardcore community offered a sense of belonging that prompted her to adopt a vegan lifestyle at age 13. Inspired by Tigers Jaw, Joyce Manor, and Code Orange, she began crafting tracks that merged atmospheric guitars, wistful vocals, and trap beats. After posting initial demos online, she issued several 2020 singles, among them “Picking Flowers” and “Ascension,” the latter a reworking of the very first song she had written. Visibility increased when Charli XCX reposted a nightcore take on “Bloody Knees,” and the pop artist later joined daine for a Halloween livestream performance.

Signing with Warner Music Australia, daine released the single “boys wanna txt” in April 2021; produced by 100 gecs’ Dylan Brady alongside Sydney-based Ryan Jacob, the track included a guest verse from emo rapper ericdoa. Another joint effort, “SALT,” again featured Oli Sykes and set the stage for her debut EP. Quantum Jumping arrived in early 2022, buoyed by the downtempo cuts “Weekend” and “IDC.” The playful “Boythots” further illustrated her versatility and preceded the 2023 follow-up EP shapeless.
