Producers Laura Les and Dylan Brady drive 100 gecs, a project defined by its bombastic and lawless energy and stylistically eruptive approach. The pair first absorbed the experimental electronic sounds of St. Louis before shifting to remote file exchanges that shaped the genre-defying hyperpop maelstrom captured on their 2019 album 1000 gecs. Ahead of the next full-length, 10,000 Gecs, they delivered the single "mememe" in 2021.

The two crossed paths in St. Louis during 2012 and began joint music-making three years later, by which point Les had relocated to Chicago. That move produced the tracks forming their debut self-titled EP in 2016, a release that fused disparate styles into rapid-fire, monstrous, maxed-out pop. While Les remained in Chicago, Brady settled in Los Angeles to produce for other acts; the pair continued shuttling project files online, culminating in the jumbled, aggressive material on 1000 gecs.

A remix of “Ringtone” featuring Rico Nasty, Charli XCX, and Kero Kero Bonito surfaced in early 2020 and later appeared on the remix album 1000 Gecs and the Tree of Clues, which collected contributions from Injury Reserve, umru, Hannah Diamond, and additional artists before its July 2020 release. The ska- and arena rock-fueled single “mememe” arrived the next year as the opening track for the forthcoming 10,000 Gecs. “Doritos & Fritos” and the EP Snake Eyes both emerged in 2022, followed by the March 2023 arrival of 10,000 Gecs.
