Formed on March 20, 1990, the DFW Mass Choir assembled more than 200 singers drawn from roughly 100 churches of assorted denominations across the Dallas/Fort Worth region. The Rev. Armond W. Brown, pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Oak Cliff, and the Rev. Milton Biggham, executive producer at the Savoy Record Company of New York City, established the ensemble. Its first live recording, the 1991 album I Will Let Nothing Separate Me, prompted tours through major urban markets and carried the LP to number five on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart. Later entries such as 1993’s Another Chance, 1994’s For His Glory, and 1998’s I’d Rather Have Jesus also registered on that chart. By the Love We Show and Pressin’ On followed in the new millennium, after which Light Records released the two-disc set Dallas-Fort Worth Mass Choir Superset in 2004. A more concise anthology, Best of the Dallas Fort Worth Mass Choir, surfaced on the same imprint four years later.
