Myron Butler

Dallas-based choir director, vocal arranger, producer, and backup singer Myron Butler supplied vocals and arrangements for Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, and Donnie McClurkin before forming his own ensemble, Levi. Their debut project, Set Me Free, surfaced on EMI Gospel in 2005 and climbed to number 18 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart; its title track later reached the Top Three of the Hot Gospel Songs tally in 2006. The effervescent collection earned four Stellar Awards, among them New Artist of the Year, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album, also propelling Butler himself into Grammy contention.

The more introspective Stronger arrived in 2007, followed by the 2010 live set Revealed...Live in Dallas, which showcased guest appearances from Kirk Franklin and Smokie Norful. Butler stepped away from the group for his initial solo outing, Worship, released in 2012. The hiatus proved brief: Myron Butler and Levi reunited for their fourth album, On Purpose, which entered the Top Gospel Albums chart at number one in 2016—the same year Butler issued the self-help volume Born Identity.

Returning to solo work, he delivered My Tribute on Fair Trade Services in 2020, enlisting contributions from Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, and additional guests.
