DJ Darren Emerson, renowned above all for his pioneering contributions to the electronic trio Underworld, entered the world on April 30, 1971, in Hornchurch, England, and first experimented with record mixing at fourteen. Early exposure to hip-hop soon gave way to an interest in house, yet he was employed as a runner at London's stock exchange when he entered the Underworld lineup in 1990. His arrival prompted the ensemble to shift toward techno, and the 1993 appearance of Dubnobasswithmyheadman positioned the group among the foremost figures in electronica, where they achieved widespread recognition through their contribution "Born Slippy" to the Trainspotting soundtrack. Emerson gained further notice for his remix work, reshaping material by Bjork and the Chemical Brothers while issuing independent releases such as the 1997 collection Cream Separates. He departed Underworld during spring 2000 and issued the Global Underground: Uruguay mix shortly thereafter, followed the next summer by the Singapore edition.
