Darryl Lee Rush, a singer, songwriter, and guitarist, entered the world in the tiny central Texas community of Markham. There he grew up spinning whimsical tales of rural and urban Texas life across gutsy, dusty backbeats. Once he reached the age to perform in honky tonks, Rush relocated to Austin and became a member of the Big Johnsons. An opportunity to join the folk-rock outfit Fast Train then drew him onward to Dallas. When Fast Train disbanded, Rush elected to remain in Dallas and assemble his own group. Together with bass player Mike McShane, harmonica player Don Gallia, and drummer Andy Mayer, he cultivated a loyal local following by delivering his rocking brand of country music in any venue willing to host the band and before any crowd prepared to listen. After countless performances, Rush and his musicians secured a contract with Shiner Records. The imprint issued the group’s first album, Llano Avenue, in August of 2005.
