Formed through a partnership between Disney Records and Deke Sharon, the leading figure in contemporary a cappella who continues to guide the ensemble as music director and arranger, DCappella operates as an American pop vocal outfit. Its roster of seven spans the full range from bass to soprano and features a vocal percussionist, with the bulk of its repertoire drawn from Disney projects.

The act launched as a fourteen-voice collective whose members were chosen via appearances on The Voice and The Sing-Off together with recruits from Broadway productions and the broader national a cappella touring scene. After Sharon trimmed the lineup to a septet, the group entered the studio for its first release in April 2018, unveiling a cover of Fall Out Boy’s “Immortal,” a song originally composed for Disney’s animated feature Big Hero 6. Several months later the singers supplied four tracks to the soundtrack of the Disney film Incredibles 2. Their concert introduction had already taken place on a Disney-themed installment of American Idol. Following a series of independent Christmas singles, DCappella unveiled its self-titled debut album in November of that year. The following January the ensemble embarked on a substantial North American tour behind the record, which appeared in a deluxe Japanese edition the next May.
