Biography
Dimension Zero originated in 1996 as a side project launched by In Flames guitarists Jesper Strömblad and Glenn Ljungström to explore more aggressive directions. Given the established profile of In Flames, the endeavor quickly drew interest from fans of Viking metal. Later that same year the lineup was completed by drummer Hans Nilsson (Luciferior, Diabolique, Crystal Age) and vocalist Jocke Göthberg (Marduk), with Strömblad also handling bass. The resulting debut mini-CD, Penetrations From the Lost World, showcased tight, high-velocity riffing that earned strong approval, while the band’s guest appearances on tribute albums for Sepultura and Mercyful Fate further enhanced their standing.
Although European metal outlets gave the release favorable coverage, Ljungström’s departure from In Flames shortly after its release suggested the project had ended. The musicians reconvened in 2001 to prepare a follow-up, which surfaced in May 2002 when Century Media issued the fuller, more developed album Silent Night Fever. Critical response was again positive, yet the members’ ongoing work elsewhere left Dimension Zero’s prospects unclear. In Flames’ heavy activity at the peak of the Nordic metal scene at the turn of the century made consistent output from this formidable side project unlikely.
