Biography
Dark, Latin Groove—commonly shortened to DLG—delivers a vibrant hybrid rooted in Latin salsa yet infused with hefty doses of bass-heavy reggae, hip-hop, and the loop-driven facets of house. The ensemble coalesced within New York’s Latin club circuit under the guidance of producer Sergio George, who unearthed vocalists Huey Dunbar and James “Da Barba” de Jesus—the first a silky soul singer, the second a ragga-tinged rapper previously supporting Tito Nieves and Sistah Souljah—before assembling them into DLG.
After inking a deal with Sergio’s own Sir George Records, the act unveiled its self-titled debut album in April 1996, a kinetic collection spotlighting George’s own keyboard work alongside Marc Quiñones on percussion and Ruben Rodriguez on bass. The follow-up, Swing On, surfaced in August 1997.
