Biography
Hailing from Michigan, producer Mike Dykehouse—whose surname is in fact genuine—made his entrance in 2001 through Dynamic Obsolescence, an effort of crunchy yet melodic IDM issued on Mike Paradinas’s Planet Mu imprint. Fresh material, among it a note-for-note rendering of My Bloody Valentine’s reading of Wire’s “Map Ref. 41 Degrees North 93 Degrees West,” drew notice from Ann Arbor’s Ghostly International and prompted the label to place that track on its Idol Tryouts compilation. The Chain Smoking 7" surfaced in early 2004 and cleared the path for the full-length Midrange, which followed in May. Crafted on an iMac with only a microphone and a Fender Jazzmaster, the record stood as a sturdy shoegaze throwback.
