Eat Skull emerged in 2006 when Rob Enbom, previously active in Hospitals, Hole Class, and Hale Zukas, joined forces with Rod Meyer, who had played in Hospitals plus the 1980s hardcore outfits Necromancy and Puppet Show. The pair recruited bassist Scott Simmons and drummer Beren Ekine-Huett in Portland, OR, and despite minimal rehearsal time quickly laid down two 7-inch singles and a cassette EP before launching local live performances. Their maxed-out, skuzzy lo-fi aesthetic placed them alongside Times New Viking and Psychedelic Horseshit in the loosely defined shitgaze category, yet they applied a more hardcore edge to the prevailing noise approach. Tom Lax at Siltbreeze took notice of the track “Dead Families” and offered the group a deal, resulting in the official debut album Sick to Death, which appeared in June 2008. Wild and Inside followed in 2009, while the band’s third LP, III, surfaced on Woodsist in 2013.
