Em Beihold crafts bright keyboard-centered pop that merges a gentle, lightly husky voice with open-ended production, compact melodic lines, and upbeat reflections on the uncertainties of young adulthood. After two social-media breakthroughs, “City of Angels” and “Groundhog Day,” surfaced in the late 2010s, her Republic Records debut single “Numb Little Bug,” drawn from the 2022 EP Egg in the Backseat, climbed to number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100. Later that year the Stephen Sanchez duet “Until I Found You” entered Norway’s Top 20.

Raised in Los Angeles, Emily Mahin Beihold began piano lessons at six and soon added guitar and ukulele. Drawing influence from Regina Spektor, she began writing and performing her own material, making her live debut in 2016 at age 17 and placing “Not Who We Were” on the soundtrack of the film I’m Not Here the following year. That track also appeared on her first EP, Infrared, released in 2017. A run of independent singles followed.

The 2020 release “City of Angels” spread rapidly across social platforms, paving the way for the even larger May 2021 hit “Groundhog Day,” whose buoyant piano-pop style accumulated tens of millions of streams. Republic Records responded by issuing “Numb Little Bug” in January 2022; the track reached number 18 on the Hot 100 and the Top 30 in the U.K. By late February it had soundtracked more than 50,000 user videos and surpassed one hundred million streams. The song anchored her second EP, Egg in the Backseat, issued that July. A collaboration with Stephen Sanchez, “Until I Found You,” taken from his Easy on My Eyes EP, arrived later in 2022 and peaked inside Norway’s Top 20. Beihold subsequently toured with King Princess and the Jonas Brothers, then returned with the single “Roller Coasters Make Me Sad” in early 2023.
