Nessa Barrett crafts songs as a vocalist and composer drawn to emotional, open alternative pop sounds, while also commanding attention across social platforms through her vast following. Her introspective track "Pain" from 2020 marked an early showcase of this personal approach, which she built upon via the subsequent release "if u love me" that same year and the 2021 hit partnership with singer/rapper Jxdn on "La Di Die." These efforts paved the way for her initial extended play, Pretty Poison in 2021, and then her inaugural album young forever the following year. Tracks such as the revved-up "Bang Bang!" along with the torchy "American Jesus" found their place on the 2023 project Hell Is a Teenage Girl. The 2024 offering "Passenger Princess" initiated the rollout for her upcoming record, which later incorporated it into Aftercare.

She initiated her online presence during high school in 2019 by sharing content focused on daily life, movement, tunes, humor, and mimed performances. Viral success arrived by the start of 2020, prompting a management deal and rapid ascent among popular acts. Prioritizing her musical pursuits, she moved away from her New Jersey residence to Los Angeles, debuting on Warner with the emotional "Pain" during July of 2020. Three months afterward came "if u love me," accumulating substantial plays. The next release, "La Di Die" featuring singer/rapper Jxdn, entered Ireland's top fifty at the beginning of 2021 and achieved airplay success on alternative and mainstream stations stateside. Propelled by the Hot 100 single "I Hope Ur Miserable Until Ur Dead," her Pretty Poison EP reached the fourth spot on the Heatseekers ranking upon its September 2021 arrival. Early in 2022 saw the rock chart appearance of standalone cut "Dying on the Inside," followed in October by "Die First" from the album young forever, which similarly charted. That long-player delved into experiences of bereavement, harassment, and psychological struggles, attaining position eighty on the Billboard 200. Through the initial months of 2023 she put out further standalone pieces including the energetic "Bang Bang!" and the passionate "American Jesus," both registering on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs listing, prior to their inclusion on the July EP Hell Is a Teenage Girl. Commencing in 2024 she previewed her subsequent album via "Passenger Princess," then unveiled "Dirty Little Secrets" which examines phases within romantic connections, with these songs appearing on the sultry yet vulnerable Aftercare set centered around affection, sorrow, and close bonds.
