Mae Muller emerged from London with a distinctive approach to pop, channeling relationship-focused stories and affirmations of personal value through her wide-ranging vocal palette and earning early notice as an act to follow in the British scene. Consistent single releases helped her cultivate a loyal audience, after which she gathered her prior EPs into the 2019 mini-album Chapter 1. The 2021 track “Better Days,” recorded with Neiked and Polo G, entered the Top 40 across several continents and peaked at number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100; subsequent 2022 singles “I Wrote a Song” and “I Just Want to Dance” both featured on her debut full-length album Sorry I'm Late, issued the next year.

Although music had long been central to the British singer/songwriter’s world, the Kentish Town-born artist did not begin writing until she turned 18. Her debut single “Closer” was composed during downtime from a job at a neighborhood bar. Further releases, among them the Simbarashe-produced “Underwater,” preceded the February 2018 arrival of her first EP After Hours. Self-described as a “soundtrack to feeling good,” the five-track set showcased varied production approaches and lyrics centered on relationships and self-empowerment. Later that December she issued the second EP Frankly, which emphasized vocal performance over dense production, exploring softer textures and an expanded range.

In early 2019 the two EPs were combined into Chapter 1, augmented by three new recordings including the self-empowerment anthem “Leave It Out.” Additional singles rounded out the year: after the candid “Anticlimax,” Muller collaborated with Ms. Banks and Caitlyn Scarlett on “Drama” and released “Dick” in October. She began 2020 with “Therapist,” which received its live debut on tour with Little Mix, and later that year delivered the EP no one else, not even you.

Muller achieved wider recognition in 2021 via “Better Days,” the Neiked and Polo G collaboration that reached number 32 on the U.K. singles chart and entered the Top 30 in the United States, Australia, Norway, and several other territories. Mid-2022 brought “American Psycho” with Marshmello and Trippie Redd, followed before year’s end by the solo release “I Just Came to Dance.” The latter track joined “I Wrote a Song” and “Me, Myself, & I” on her first long-player Sorry I'm Late in 2023.
