Taylor Gayle Rutherford performs under the name GAYLE as an American singer and songwriter whose breakthrough arrived in 2021 via the anthemic debut single “ABCDEFU,” a track blending pop and punk that ascended to the summit of pop charts across numerous nations. Two EPs titled A Study of the Human Experience, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 appeared the following year, securing her first entry on the Billboard 200. Additional singles surfaced in 2023, among them the hit “Butterflies” featured on the Barbie soundtrack.

Born in Texas and now based in Tennessee, the artist relocated from Dallas to Nashville at seventeen in pursuit of a music career, drawing the notice of Kara DioGuardi, the American Idol judge and music publisher, who facilitated a recording contract with Atlantic. Her inaugural release, the platinum-certified “ABCDEFU,” surfaced in 2021, swiftly turning into a viral social-media sensation that accumulated more than 100 million streams worldwide and climbed into the Top Three in both the United States and overseas markets. Momentum continued through 2022 when the fiery, guitar-driven “Ur Just Horny” joined “ABCDEFU” on the March-issued debut EP A Study of the Human Experience, Vol. 1, which debuted at number 138 on the Billboard 200 and reached the Top 50 in Canada. Eight months afterward came the follow-up EP A Study of the Human Experience Vol. Two and a Half. During 2023 GAYLE released the singles “Everybody Hates Me” and “Leave Me for Dead,” placed “Butterflies” on the Barbie film soundtrack album, and opened for Taylor Swift on the American dates of The Eras Tour.
