Biography
In the opening years of the 1990s, Emmanuel Top rose as France’s inaugural techno superstar, although his renown registered more strongly in Germany and England than within France itself. Numerous 12-inch singles appeared on the Attack label, including La Pipe a Eau, Krankenhaus, Ecsta-Deal, Stress, Turkish Bazar, and additional titles, many of which were later gathered on the 1995 triple-disc anthology Release. Top next aligned with Nova Mute, where he stood alongside established figures such as Plastikman. The Lobotomie EP marked his arrival on the imprint and was followed by the Spherique 12" together with the Asteriod LP in 1996. Outside solo projects, Top joined Bruno Sanchioni and Bruno Quartier from the mid- through late 1990s in the trance outfit B.B.E., responsible for “Seven Days and One Week,” and likewise in Age of Love, originators of the original “Age of Love.”
