Epoch of Unlight sustains the spirit of classic straight-ahead thrash metal, echoing the style Megadeth and Slayer honed throughout the 1980s, well into the present day for devoted listeners. Guitarist and vocalist Jason Smith, second guitarist Randy Robertson, bassist Pierce Totty, and drummer Tino Losicco have formed the group's core since 1990. Five years after forming, the quartet delivered its initial demo, Within the Night. A six-track promo CD titled Black & Crimson Glory appeared in 1997 and drew the attention of The End Records, which signed the band and released its debut full-length, What Will Be Has Been, in 1998; the group promoted the album by opening shows for Dimmu Borgir and Samael. Their second album, Caught in the Unlight, arrived in 2001 and was helmed by veteran underground metal producer Keith Falgout, known for prior work with Crowbar, Soilent Green, and Crisis. ~ Greg Prato
